How to check a private clinic or hospital in Hong Kong

Use Hong Kong’s Department of Health register to check a private healthcare facility, then verify the practitioner separately with the Medical Council.

Short answer

The Department of Health’s Private Healthcare Facilities Register can help confirm a facility’s category and published registration details. It does not establish a doctor’s specialist registration, treatment outcomes or patient reviews; check those separately.

Start with the exact facility and site

Search using the facility’s legal name where possible. Compare the address and facility category with the location you plan to visit. A group may operate several sites, and a record for one location should not be assumed to cover another.

If a close match appears, do not rely on the brand name alone. Save the official result, the address, the category shown and the date you searched. A name that does not appear on the first try is not by itself proof that a facility is unlawful; the registered name or search terms may differ.

Check the doctor separately

The Department of Health register is about the facility. To check an individual doctor, search the Medical Council of Hong Kong register and confirm the person’s name and registration category. Specialist registration is a separate detail to review; it cannot be inferred from a facility licence or a clinic biography.

The Department of Health also publishes regulatory action records. Those records are a separate search and should be matched to the facility and site in question.

What the register does not tell you

A facility record does not guarantee a result, confirm a particular device or procedure, or provide an independent assessment of patient experience. A practitioner’s registration also does not mean that every service offered at a site has been independently reviewed by this website.

For a cross-border consultation, write down the facility’s legal name, the exact site, the doctor’s name, the procedure and the follow-up contact. Our provider directory links the official search portals and records the limits of each profile.
